Weekly Update & News - July 11th, 2006

Congratulations to all swimmers for winning our third meet of the season and remaining undefeated! After the first eight events, it looked like Monticello might be setting the Sea Lions up for an upset, as the score was tied. Unfortunately for the Killer Whales, this is when the freestyle relays began, and the Sea Lions won eight of the ten relays to gain a lead they would never relinquish. By the time the meet was over, the Sea Lions would extend their lead to win by a score of 787 to 635. They did this by winning 70 events and losing only 36.

The Sea Lions’ 13-14 year old boys continued to dominate, as they won all 11 of their events against Monticello. So far this season, this group has won 31 events and lost only twice. Also performing very well were the 11-12 girls, who won all but one of their 11 events.

Several new team records were set during the meet, with Ryan Livergood breaking three individual records (100-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard butterfly) and participating in a record-breaking 200-yard freestyle relay, all in the 15-18 age group. Ryan was joined on the relay by Ali Thurwachter, Drew Smith and Kris Oman. Ali also set new team records for the 15-18 girls in the 50-yard freestyle and 50-yard backstroke events. Brynne Buell was the other 15-18 girls record setter, as she broke her existing team record in the 200-yard individual medley.

Sarah Sutherlin broke two team records against Monticello. She is the new 11-2 girls record holder in the 100-yard freestyle, and broke her own record in the 100-yard backstroke. Austin Flynn, Gregg Hagen, Andrew Sansoucie and Zach Moreno set a new team record in the 11-12 boys 200-yard freestyle relay.

Among the 13-14 boys, Danny Jack set a new standard in the 50-yard backstroke and Dan Zagaja broke his existing team record in the 100-yard butterfly. Danny and Dan were joined by Evan Engelage and Alex Williams on the record setting 200-yard medley relay team. AWESOME SWIMMING!

A special thank you to ALL our great volunteers last night – as always we host a terrific event due to all your hard work!
